November 17th is National Homemade Bread Day. It's probably no accident that this special day precedes the holiday season. What better way to celebrate your upcoming holiday meal preparation than by including children in this bread making practical life activity. Imagine the joy your child will experience when he places a basket of freshly baked bread on your dinner table or gift wraps a loaf to share with friends. With the advent of warmer weather, longer days, and more leisure time as a family, gardening is a natural pursuit for the summer months. If you haven’t started yet, you may not have enough time left before cool weather returns to grow some plants (especially if you live in the north or at high elevation). However, that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun in the garden this summer, nonetheless. Why not get some information and inspiration, and, as they say, “get growing”!
Find a wealth of ideas and gardening activities for the summer months (and all year long) in the archived newsletters of Garden Artisans. They cover many helpful, interesting and educational topics, like edible gardening in containers, companion planting, mulching, and xeriscaping. They also have lots of products and projects to help you get creative in and around the garden with your kids. Rae tells us that these lessons can be adapted for elementary age through adult learner, and by seeing what is offered I thoroughly agree.
